Because I went in search of a better life,

a cross hanging from my neck,

with my blessed Virgin Mary watching over me,

my reward was to find a place so safe, that I bloomed.

A cross hanging from my neck,

brick by brick, I began to build the foundation of my new life.

My reward was to find a place so safe, that I bloomed.

I filled the absence of sound by singing at the top of my lungs.

Brick by brick, I began to build the foundation of my new life.

I spackled over the vacancy of my family by creating one from strangers.

I filled the absence of sound by singing at the top of my lungs.

But the pastries, salsa, and coffee never hit the same.

But the pastries, salsa, and coffee never hit the same,

Because I went in search of a better life.
